'Potcake' is the name given to the dogs of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands. It came about because the locals fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs. See the Article about Potcake Place on Todayshow.com and MSNBC!!! Click Here! (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/38434562/ns/today-today_pets_and_animals)Potcakes are rescued from around the islands of the Turks and Caicos. The spay/neuter programs are not keeping up. The feral dog population of the islands is growing, and more and more litters of puppies are being found as well as individual pups at a loss without their littermates. They may be found by tourists whilst they are out exploring, or locals in their back yard, whilst they are working on construction sites, or driving around the island. As generations have passed, Potcakes have evolved into a breed which is extremely smart, loyal and loving. In the 'Success Stories', you will see them so at home from the beach to the snow, and from playing gently with young children to snuggling with other dogs and cats. Potcakes grow up to between 35 lb and 75 lb, with 45-50 lb being the average.Adopt a Potcake. You will not be disappointed. You can save a life and make a difference in the future of one dog, of your own family, and of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Potcakes need your help.THIS IS TULA. TULA AND HER TWIN BROTHER TIBBY URGENTLY NEED A HOME OF THEIR OWNTHEY ARE SMART, PLAYFUL AND LOVING 5-6 MONTH OLD POTCAKES.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR DIRECTOR

I know I haven’t been online lately. I have a million and one excuses, all of which I am getting bored of repeating. With my dogs, my foster dogs, my daughter, my family and my never ending to do list, I have not been around to answer as many emails and Facebook messages as I need and would like to reply to.Those of you that have met me can obviously see how crazily busy I am. I am sorry if we have just had fleeting visits. Those of you who have become more then fleeting visitors know how insane my life is and I thank you for understanding. Those of you who are my long suffering friends, I reallythank you. I started Potcake Place with the mission of being run out of business. As you know Potcake Place is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers. The foster homes, volunteers, contributors and downright insane helpers, all do this for no pay, out of pocket, long hours, sadness, heartbreak and utter joy. We are, alas in no way about to be run out of business. So we march on.Because of our vet, Dr. Mark Woodring, we now have a place for Potcake Place. This has been wonderful and is a great step. But with this has brought more taxing of my time… see, another excuse!I logged on to Facebook this evening and saw all of the wonderful posts about adoptions, forth coming adoptions, spaying and neutering, caring, celebrating, helping and just all out support.Thank you for being here. Thank you for supporting these wonderful dogs in need. There are so many and our needs are so great. We urgently need money and supplies, but my mood has been lifted tonight by seeing your messages. I need to be reminded of why on earth I am doing this and Ithank you for that reminder. Please keep those coming and I pledge I will try and be here more often.Thank you.Jane Parker-Rauw

TURTLE CREEK DRIVE LITTER Now known as TheTurtle Creek Litter.. Rescued and saved by three of the nicest Island residents you could meet. They are sick and fed up of seeing the suffering of these beautiful homeless dogs who should be pets and family members. They live next door to a property that is rented out and there are adult male and female dogs around that property that are unowned, unwanted and ignored. These dogs have multiple litters. They mainly die or wander off when old enough. These concerned people reached the end of their rope when they come home a few months ago to find one pup dead and their starving litter mates trying to eat it. Countless calls into the powers that be led nowhere.A few weeks ago a new litter of fluff balls appeared and they once again feared the worse. They were given our number and called for help. They rounded up the pups in minutes and had them into our vet office, where they told us the above saga. We, as usual were overwhelmed with pups but in no uncertain terms could we turn these away. We cannot thank these caring people enough and are happy to report that the pups are now thriving. The problem still exists that needs to be rectified, but for these five pups… life is good. Now they need forever homes

POTCAKE ARTWORK

It has to be said, it's quite hard to find something that is actually made here in The Turks and Caicos Islands. But two of the best things that are made here are Potcakes and Local Artwork. We are now able to combine the two. We are pleased to offer, on a limited basis one of a kind original art from Turks and Caicos Artist Phillip Outten. Phillip will produce an original piece of Art in your choice of Watercolor or Acrylic. If you would like to commision Phillip to produce a painting of your Potcake Please email us for details.mail@potcakeplace.com (mailto:mail@potcakeplace.com) with the subject Artwork Good things take time, so please remember that when ordering your piece. About the Artist.... Phillip Outten Phillip was born on the island of Grand Turk in The Turks and Caicos Islands. After attending art school in Jamaica he branched out on his own. Forty Five year old Phillip Outten sees life through the oceans of the CaribbeanHis paintings hang in many homes. But the soft spoken artist is also a horseman; he grew up around the horses that have roamed Grand Turk since the times of the Bermudian salt rakers. Those early settlers shipped the animals there to provide transportation. Stardust was Phillips’s first horse, but he admits that all the horses on Grand Turk have a place in his heart. He knows them all, and has taken care of and ridden many of them. After some time spent away from the islands, Phillip is back home and trying to reestablish himself. His passion for Island animals shows in his paintings. From the roaming ponies to the stray Potcakes, Phillip adds his own Island spirit to every painting he produces.
