Early one evening as a couple was leaving a local store here, they suddenly noticed a gorgeous little potcake all alone and very frightened. They managed to pick up this scared little soul and take her home to bath and feed her. Potcake Place were contacted. She was so beautiful and unique looking, approx 10 weeks old, but the volunteers noticed something a little different with one of her back legs.
The next day at the Vets, they discovered that the puppy was very healthy but had obviously been hit by a car or similar trauma at a very, very young age and the break had healed on its own. The puppy was in no pain but would always walk with a slight limp. This may not be a hindrance now, but could have been life and death if she had been left in the wild to fend for herself. Could you provide a home for a loving Potcake pup? There was some concern about the fact that this puppy might not be as easy to place as the 100% perfect ones, and maybe she should be euthanized? After considering for all of a two seconds about that, she was given her 1st puppy shots and wormer and brought back to the loving foster home. This puppy really does need your help, she is gorgeous! She is still a little nervous but really coming around. She loves to be cuddled and really hugs you back. She has so much love to give. This is “Heidi” :
UPDATE: Heidi has now gone home with her wonderful new Mom to North Carolina. As much as we will miss having this most wonderful puppy around, we are so overjoyed that she is now on her way to a great new life.

Heidi is a real boat lover..... what a difference a few months make. Can you imagine the life that Heidi would have lived scrounging for food behind the Cost Right Supermarket? Look at her now!
26 Aug 2006: Heidi gains a Potcake brother, Kipper, on her owners next visit to the island. What a present that was:

12 Sep 2006: "Kipper and I picked heidi up after her Spay surgery. Heidi did great but they said she was not "happy" with them today. Would not walk on a lead and looked sad. When she saw kipper all that changed-tail was up and wagging ready to go. Her stiches look fine, so now the challenge to keep her and Kipper from being too rough. She is my bed with her treats and kipper is on his dog bed with the toy you gave him. I really think she knows your name b/c I talk about you all daily---don't want them to forget who gave them their big chance in life."

11 Dec 2006: "Finally some updated photos of heidi & kipper. They have really grown. They are truly a joy to have around & I always remind them of the wonderful people in the turks who saved their lives & that they are "potcakes"!!!! "

They were very cautious at first & then they jumped right in. Kipper was rolling around in it & Heidi was just looking up like what is this falling on me. They are running around in it now taking breaks to get warm." 30 Jan 2007: "Heidi's leg seems to be fine---she can run just fine. She is also the boss & kipper knows it---even though he is bigger he always defers to her---it is funny to watch. Thanks for keeping her that day----she is one special potcake!!!" 14 Mar 2007: "heidi & kipper continue to do great------kipper loves to retrieve the tennis ball----we play fetch several times a day---heidi watches & runs w/ him as he comes back. she is not interested in chasing a ball. she has her eyes on the squirrels. she is always after them----one day she will probably get one." 23 May 2007: "Heidi & Kipper had a vet visit last week--normal check-up stuff. Heidi is 42 pounds & Kipper is 60 pounds. Both are doing great--the girls at the vet office love them both--they talk about their "island" dogs." .jpg) .jpg)

We were going very slow at the time b/c we were in front of the marina----he was swimming good....Heidi thought about it but never did it. the day before we had them on the bigger boat for an hour or so-----Kipper was scared at first but ended up liking it.
Started obedience school w/ them yesterday---they both did great. we all 3 have a lot to learn...especially me the "softy"smile!" December 07: Showing her slightly bigger but younger brother Kipper who is Top Potcake!
We will always think of Heidi in this particular pose... Now it is immortalized by an artist! Heidi... you truly are a work of art....
